Bear Necessities Brenda and Mike Buxton from Stafford visited Gloucester in August 2005. Their narrow boat's name reflects Brenda's hobby of collecting model bears, and some examples were displayed on the roof of the cabin. |

Piper at the Gates of Dawn This wide beam inland waterways boat, seen at Gloucester in August 2005, was launched in 1976 as a 60 seater restaurant and was berthed on the Regents Canal near Kings Cross. It has subsequently been refurbished for living aboard. The boat takes its name from the debut album of Pink Floyd. |

Bascote and Gosport Peter and Julia Invermee stopped off in Gloucester in July 2005 on their way back to Newbury from the Saul Canal Festival. Butty Gosport is a 1912 Fellows Morton & Clayton boat. Motor boat Bascote has an old name but is a fine modern replica. |

Gongoozler David Harris visited Gloucester in July 2005, travelling via the Midlands from his base at Honey Street on the Kennet & Avon Canal. His boat was built in 1968 by Les Allen of Oldbury, who previously built commercial narrow boats. The curious name refers to someone who enjoys being beside a canal watching the boats go by. |

Oak and Ash Martin Reed and his pair of hotel boats visited Gloucester in June 2005 on the way to the Saul Canal Festival. The boats mix colourful tradition on the outside with modern comfort on the inside. The fitting out of the boats was featured in the WaterWorld TV series earlier in the year. |

anam cara Barry and Pat Mumby's boat is based at Stanley Ferry near Leeds on the Aire & Calder Navigation. The name is celtic for soul mate. They visited Gloucester in June 2005 for the wedding of their son in the Forest of Dean.
