Bear Necessities

Brenda and Mike Buxton from Stafford visited Gloucester in August 2005. Their narrow boat's name reflects Brenda's hobby of collecting model bears, and some examples were displayed on the roof of the cabin.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn

This wide beam inland waterways boat, seen at Gloucester in August 2005, was launched in 1976 as a 60 seater restaurant and was berthed on the Regents Canal near Kings Cross. It has subsequently been refurbished for living aboard. The boat takes its name from the debut album of Pink Floyd.

Gongoozler

David Harris visited Gloucester in July 2005, travelling via the Midlands from his base at Honey Street on the Kennet & Avon Canal. His boat was built in 1968 by Les Allen of Oldbury, who previously built commercial narrow boats. The curious name refers to someone who enjoys being beside a canal watching the boats go by.
